I’ve always been a helper. Maybe that comes from being raised by two generations of public educators, but doing work that matters, and doing it with people, not for them, has always been part of how I’m wired. Combine that with my (at times) extreme authenticity, and you’ve got a dogged leader who’s set on making things better.

Now, as a father of two, I try to make sure my kids understand that privilege carries real responsibility: notice what’s good in the world, but you don’t let that gratitude be an excuse to ignore what still needs fixing. That can be a difficult tension to hold, but I’m positive it’s a necessary one.

The nonprofit sector is often left to take on the work corporations and institutions either can’t or won’t do, usually with limited resources and a razor-thin margin for error. I want to help those organizations stop creating unnecessary headwinds for themselves so they can spend more of their energy carrying out the mission that brought them there in the first place.
